MBC Awareness Week - 3rd week of October

On October 15th, 2009, Cathy Reid - Executive Director of Out of the Shadow of Pink, who is currently working alongside the Brandon Greening Foundation requested my assistance to join them in their mission to establish Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week (see Proclamation) as the 3rd week in October. Currently we are gathering the names of individuals who would support this concept. Please support our mission by adding your name to the sign up sheet.
Cathy Reid lost her husband Joe at the age of 47 to MBC in September 2008.
Herb Wagner is currently a 4.5 year
MBC survivor. My name is Herb Wagner and I am the founder
and President of “A Man’s Pink”. I am
also a 4.5 year male breast cancer (MBC) survivor. While very rare, approximately 1% of all
breast cancer is diagnosed in men. In
other words, approximately 2000 men in the In 2008, my daughters and I launched www.malebreastcancer.ca, a
website providing information and support for MBC patients, survivors and their
loved ones. In October 2009, we joined
forces with two other MBC awareness organizations, “Out of the Shadow of Pink”
(www.outoftheshadowofpink.com) and the “Brandon Greening
Foundation” (www.breastcancerinmen.org) to designate the
3rd week of October as male breast cancer awareness week. Currently we are collecting as many
signatures as possible to support our cause.
We are asking for and would really appreciate your support to establish
our proclamation for the 3rd week of October to be recognized as MBC
awareness week. We have received the
support of the Frederick County Commissioner’s President, Jan Gardner from
Frederick County, Maryland. Currently,
the survival rate for men with breast cancer is only 77.5% compared to 84.5% for
women. By helping us in our mission to
increase MBC awareness and thereby increasing early detection for men, we can
help provide men with the same overall survival rate experienced by women
diagnosed with breast cancer. Cathy Reid is the CEO of “Out of the Shadow
of Pink” who lost her husband Joe, at the age of 47 to MBC in September
2008. Brandon Greening is the CEO of the “Brandon
Greening Foundation” and is a 37 year old man currently battling stage IV MBC.
We thank you for your support and “Together
we WILL make a
difference”. Be
